Kamiros is a destination for lovers of history and archeology! 30 km west of the romantic city of Rhodes, the ancient Kamiros is a place of great historical importance for the Dodecanese. In the 5th century BC, Kamiros and the other two equally powerful cities of the island, Ialyssos and Lindos, joined together to create the great city-state of Rhodes.

The ruins date in the 3rd century BC. Visitors of the ancient Kamiros can see the Agora, a temple and a few sticks. A lot of discoveries of ancient Kamiros are now in the Louvre, the British Museum and the famous archaeological Museum of Rhodes. The Monastery of the Virgin Mary stands today in the same position that the temple of Athena was in the 3rd century BC.
The best way to end this exciting short tour of ancient Greece, is by visiting a traditional Greek village! Taking the main road from Kamiros to the southwest toward the Skala of Kamiros you will live a wonderful experience, passing by small villages, beautiful forests and ancient monasteries.
Skala of Kamiros is a small port where boats depart for the islands of Nisyros and Halki. Characteristics of this beautiful place are the green houses and of course the warm atmosphere in the taverns.
Despite the multitude of hotels and rented rooms of the Kamiros, it is not a traditional destination for those who want to relax at the beach under the Greek sun, but it is certainly an important site of Rhodes, which shows the history of the island in all its greatness. Do not miss this experience.
